Resolution 2019-1644 sponsored by Council Member Tanaka Vercher offers a $500-per-job cash grant incentive for the creation of at least 5,000 jobs over a seven-year period. This resolution is scheduled for the Metro Council meeting on Tuesday, March 19, 2019
Amazon’s decision to locate their Center of Excellence in Nashville will employ positions in the fields of senior management, finance, HR, legal, IT, operations, and sales and marketing. These positions will pay above the median annual wage in Metro’s MSA. Amazon anticipates that at least 1,000 of their new employees will be local hires. This move places Nashville on par with peer cities such as Austin to be a place where technology-based industries can grow talent, expand their businesses and serve the community.
It is important to note that RS2019-1644 must comply with the requirements of the “Do Better Bill” (BL2017-983) – legislation passed by the Metro Council requiring businesses seeking incentives to provide more information about employee wages, hiring, etc. Amazon has included all the required information per that legislation. You can read about the proposal here.
